The Allston Yacht Club is the wrong restaurant for the right place. This right place, echo park, is the home to many fine latin cuisines.
But in sell honesty, Allston Yacht Club is for the yuppies of the westside, or downtown LA, or even a few miles east to silver lake.
On this late afternoon weekday, after fighting traffic, I finally made my way to the happy hour at Allston’s. My diligent research, mostly through yelp, told me about the 4 grilled cheese special. That was my number one goal. I knew that Allston’s was testing out their sandwiches for the upcoming LA grilled cheese event. I remember three out of the four were good, but i didn’t care much for the rolls they were served with.
I know the other dishes were decent. But the desserts were exceptional. I’d come back with a date for desserts. But the big problem is that they are located in a less than desirable location.

Okay, so let me get this straight. Echo Park should only have “fine Latin” restaurants…because there are already so many of them here? The people of Echo Park won’t understand food meant for yuppies? We’re just so ghetto we won’t get it?
Wow.
Sounds like maybe you should just review restaurants that are close to your house so you’re not inconvenienced.
And btw, maybe when you are writing your next review, try describing the food. People like that.
I didn’t mean to offend anyone. Perhaps it came out a bit wrong. I just felt that Allston didn’t quite fit the profile in the area.
Anyways. . .I will try to describe the food more in the future. Sorry, lately I have been under the weather and I hurt my back when I slipped on the street when it was raining.
I supposed I could be considered a “yuppie” in Echo Park, but I love Allston Yacht Club. We start our nights there quite often and the people who work there are crazy and amazing. I think it’s a perfect fit in Echo Park’s “eclectic” neighborhood. A mix of yuppies, indie rockers and artists fill the joint. Love it!
