Chicken in Asia
Perhaps it is because I have been in Asia way too long. I don’t know. Or maybe I am used to KFC in China for their fast food industrialized chicken (but sometimes that’s good, too). It’s possible. There are days when Chinese steamed or Sichuan deep fried chicken isn’t enough.
WOW. . . that’s some Great Chicken!
Oppadak – meaning the missing chicken, features different types of chicken from rotisserie and spicy. But most everyone comes to Oppadak for their oven baked ones. Skinless, yet battered, the chicken overfills a basket with legs, thighs, breasts, and wings. I would have thought the skinless part would have less flavor and would let all the juicy goodness ooze out. But the slightly-savory crusty golden batter was more than just a replacement or novelty. With each order you get a couple of dipping sauces. The sauces I remember which stood out included sweet and sour, hot mustard, and barbecue. We paid a little more for the extra dipping sauce. For about 15,900 Won (which is about USD 15) you get a whole baked chicken. For a little more you can get all wings or thighs or drumsticks. I kinda liked the variety.
The Chicks
For whatever reason, there was a large amount of girls in the restaurant. I could think, off the top of my head, that girls liked the non-smokey bbq environment, the tasty chicken, and the sweet sauces. When we were in there, I could have thought I saw at least more than a few tables of girls enjoying chicken and beer. Yes! Beer! That’s another thing I learned. Korean girls can out drink guys in Seoul. This amazing culture grows women who are slushes!
And one last things. . . on another subject . . . Make sure you bundle up in winter in Seoul. It was fricken’ cold in Korea.
What to Order: Baked Chicken and Beer
What not to Order: The pickles don’t really belong, but native Koreans have it everywhere. . . almost more than kimchi.

The full name translated means “Chicken that fell out of the oven” and is shortened to Oppadak (probably because it sounds like the word for “big brother” that girls use).
Anyways, this is a chain of chicken restaurants and the particular one we visited is located at Gangnam station (강남역). For those of you who are not familiar with Seoul, this is the area of Seoul that’s somewhat like Shinjuku (Tokyo) maybe where there’s lots of shopping, lots of foot traffic, and lots of restaurants/bars. This is one of the cleaner and busier areas of Seoul.
The sauces we had are Wasabi Mayo, Hot/Spicy, and Peanut Teriyaki. I think the 1st two are the best sauces. But, actually, I prefer to eat the chicken without any sauce at all. Koreans have this thing for sauce that I don’t really get. They love their damn sauce.

It’s amazing how something baked could be that crispy. The juicy, salty, succulent chicken really didn’t need sauce but it’s nice to mix up the flavor a little. Great place to drink and grub.
Do they have anything like this in United States? That looks soooo good!
