One of the more popular restaurant chains in Harbin is Orient King 东方饺子王 (Dongfang Jiaozi Wang). Based on referrals from locals, the hotel, and the drivers, Orient King was a place that we had to try.
One of the northern Chinese customs is to have dumplings when you first return or arrive from a trip as I wrote when I had my last lunch in Dalian. And when you leave you would have noodles. Orient King is known for their water boiled dumplings. Not sure on what to order, we picked a set dinner for the four of us.
Amazingly, we meal included 6 different plates of dumplings, among other things. Stuff in the large dumpling, there was all types of meats, including pork, fish, beef, vegetables, and lamb. Most of the dumplings were quite good, even with or without the salty soy dipping sauce. Though, there was a one dish that we all felt was pretty strange.
There were other dishes including pork, chicken, and mushrooms. But I don’t remember too much about the rest.
