Defining Afternoon Tea at the Lobby Lounge, Peninsula Hotel Shanghai

When you think of English afternoon tea, you think of high society sipping on tea with crumpets at a posh hotel, like the Peninsula. At the Lobby Lounge, that’s what you’ll find. With a live 3 piece string triplet playing, you can relax the afternoon away.

The Shanghai Peninsula Hotel 半島酒店, which recently opened in 2009, features a luxury shopping arcade, world-class restaurants, and other top amenities. There’s also a great bar lounge in the basement called Salon de Ning. Based in Hong Kong, the Peninsula Hotel also features a great outdoor balcony on the roof overlooking the Bund and the Huangpu river.

Today, we aren’t throwing back beers or partying under the stars, but having afternoon tea. There are the mini sandwiches, the biscuits, and cookies, to go with the teas, coffees, and drinks. Heck, you could even order a beer.
